Witchwater

On a high bank overlooking Lake Bertha the family constructed this large log cabin. When it was time to put in a well, no water could be found. So they called in a "witcher" who promptly found good, sweet water. Forever after the cabin was called Witchwater.

The construction, design and layout clearly reflect the rustic elegance of the 30's. It is situated on 19 private, wooded acres, but is just a few miles from downtown Crosslake and Pequot Lakes. Lake Bertha is part of the popular Whitefish chain of lakes. The grounds are suitable for volleyball, croquet, hide and go seek or quiet reading and observing the birds play and chat. There are quaint Adirondack chairs on the lawn overlooking the lake - perfect for that first cup of coffee.

The great room has a very high, beamed ceiling. The massive floor to ceiling fieldstone fireplace is breathtaking. (Don't forget the s'mores recipe!) If the fireplace doesn't catch your eye, surely the fabulous area rug will. The furniture in this room combines old and new. You will find a large comfortable sofa made of soft leather in a butterscotch tone. In one corner, a dark brown leather chair and ottoman invites readers to put up their feet and get lost in a book. The additional upholstered occasional chair makes it easy to join in the conversation in front of the fireplace. In the opposite corner the wonderful antique dining table is waiting for guests and serving up great outdoor scenery. The handsome antique sideboard is also at your service.

The kitchen is large enough for many hands to help without getting in one another's working space. The original open cupboards display a full set of china, glassware and all the cooking pieces you will need. Besides a vintage gas range with two ovens and a griddle, the kitchen has a coffee maker, toaster and microwave oven. Behind the kitchen you will discover a room with the refrigerator and washer and dryer. And lastly, the bathroom, which is a generous size and has lots of cupboards.

There are three bedrooms here - one on the main floor and two in the loft. Each room has been furnished with a beautiful room sized rug, a new queen sized bed and an antique dresser. All three bedrooms have windows on three sides for excellent cross ventilation. Each room also has a built in rod for hanging clothes, multiple hooks and bars for hanging beach towels or jackets or hats. There is a small alcove in the loft between the bedrooms. What a great place to share secrets or play games on a rainy day.

The sandy bottom and gradual drop off at the lake will be great for waders and swimmers alike. The dock is roomy enough for the whole family.
